Peter Gabriel is set to release an orchestral covers album
featuring the likes of Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Elbow and Bon
Iver.
Entitled 'Scratch My Back' the album is described
as a "song swap" with a host of "extremely legendary artists" set
to cover each other's material.
The orchestral parts for the album were recorded here at
AIR studios by AIR Management's Steve Orchard. Gabriel also
worked with Bob Ezrin, producer of Lou Reed's Berlin, Pink
Floyd's The Wall and Gabriel's self-titled 1977 record. "The songs
are not simply covers," collaborator John Metcalfe told BBC 6
Music. "They are major reinterpretations of some famous stuff. It's
quite radical."
Other artists covered include the likes of: The Kinks, Lou Reed,
David Bowie, Neil Young and Talking Heads.
The album is expected to be released in spring 2010.
